3 Simple Protein Dessert Recipes You Will Love

Diet & Nutrition Inspiring People
by Heather McClees, 16 December 2015

With our country’s obsession with getting enough protein, there’s just never enough ways to add more of this macronutrient into our diets … or so it seems. Most protein intake is normally associated with our main meal, but with the help of a good quality protein powder, you can now make healthy protein dessert recipes to satisfy any craving, simply by adding a scoop or two of protein powder.

If you have not tried this before, then here are 3 simple protein dessert recipes you can start with today.

Protein Powders: Choose Quality Sources as the Healthiest Options

Protein powders are an area to be cautious with. Always look for a protein that is alkaline which means it does not promote inflammation. You should also be sure you choose a plant-based protein when possible … despite whey protein being the most popular protein out there. Remember, whey is a byproduct of cheese-making and is very, very processed.

Whey is simply not a clean source of protein, nor are animal sources in general. It’s much better to obtain your protein from plants when possible since they decrease inflammation, are just as filling, promote lean muscle mass (not excessive growth), and don’t contribute to irregular hormonal activity if you choose a high-quality option.

So, Why Protein Powder?

You can easily get enough protein without a powder … it’s very easy to do if you eat a variety of vegetables, fruit, greens, legumes (peas, beans, lentils), whole grains and seeds being some of the highest and best sources.

But if you want something to add to a smoothie that tastes great, or even make dessert with, you might consider using a clean protein powder which can be a delicious replacement to flour in baking, can thicken up frozen desserts, and be used in many other ways to create sweet treats without the sugar, fat and cholesterol that traditional desserts have. No wonder protein powder recipes are all the rage.

Here are 3 Protein Dessert Recipes we Love:

Brownies

These are fantastic! All you have to do is simply mix equal parts cocoa powder and protein powder (such as Nuzest Smooth Vanilla or Rich Chocolate Clean Lean Protein

powder (or even another flavor) in a small ramekin or a coffee mug and stir. Add a little bit of water to make a thick pudding, ½ tsp. of baking powder, and stir again. Microwave for 2-3 minutes until it puffs up like cake. Yum! You can top with cacao nibs to let them melt on top, or enjoy it with some non-dairy coconut yogurt as another option.

Cookies

Everyone loves cookies, right? Mix equal parts Nuzest protein powder and coconut flour (about ¼ cup). Then stir in equal parts gluten-free rolled oats. Add cinnamon if you like and ½ tsp. of baking soda. Since Nuzest is naturally sweetened, you don’t need to add any sweetener, but you can add cacao nibs, coconut shreds, or raw nuts and seeds for a bit of bite! Mix your ingredients with non-dairy milk until you get a nice, thick dough. Place in small balls on non-stick baking pan and bake for 10-15 minutes until done. Makes about 5-6 cookies each.

Ice Cream

This one is a classic delight and so easy! You can easily make your own flavored ice creams at home that also have enough protein to keep you full without weighing you down like dairy-based ice creams and whey-based protein powders.

To make, simply mix 2 cups unsweetened non-dairy milk with ¼ cup Nuzest Clean Lean Protein powder, 1 tsp. chia seeds, and 2 cups ice. Mix in a high-speed blender and place in a bowl to set in the freezer. The protein, chia, and ice will thicken it up, and as it sets, it will get nice and frosty like ice cream! Let it sit for at least 30-45 minutes for the best results, come back and eat with a spoon!

These are just a few simple protein dessert recipes you can use to make your own healthy desserts with protein powder. Just remember, you’ll benefit the most from a really clean, delicious protein powder, not chalky processed concoctions with odd ingredients. Give Clean Lean Protein a try as a fantastic place to start!

Enjoy!
