I believe that we all have the opportunity to make an impact on the lives of our peers. As a teen who has struggled with being underweight due to obsessive exercise paired with a lack of proper nutritional intake, I feel the desire to share the knowledge that I gained regarding health and wellness throughout my journey of recovery. Here is my pep talk for success from me to you!

For years, I have engaged in a battle against myself over my self-confidence. It has been an emotional roller coaster, yet I have found a balance that has allowed me to overcome this mental obstacle. I believe that we all deserve to find this balance in our lives. In past experiences as an athlete, some coaches have failed to recognize my potential. This, in turn, has stimulated me to encourage others to not let anyone stop themselves from chasing their dreams. Each and every day, I am motivated to build my strength and prove those individuals from my past wrong. I am proud to be the strong and independent woman I have become today. I hope to inspire you to build up that inner strength as well and to persevere!

Sometimes, life throws us curveballs. We’ve all had those days when just getting out of bed in the morning can seem like a burden that we simply can’t bear. However, we must remember that we all have the strength to overcome the obstacles that throw themselves our way. All it takes is having the mindset of perseverance.

For every moment spent worrying and fixating on difficult situations, think of what you may be missing out on. Think of the memories that you could be making with friends and family. Think of all the opportunities that could be slipping from your grasp.

Life is about learning to persevere beyond the adversities that we face. It’s about focusing on being the individuals we have always wanted to be. Most importantly, it’s about finding balance and happiness in the lives we are living. Happiness comes in all shapes and sizes. What makes me happy may not have the same effect on you. That doesn’t make it wrong. It just serves as a reinforcement to the idea that everyone is different.

We are all on our own paths in life. That doesn’t mean paths cannot cross. We all have the ability to make a difference in the lives of the people we meet. We each may have different goals and aspirations for ourselves that are leading us in opposite directions, but that doesn’t mean we can’t make a positive impact on the world around us.

A key component in the quest to maintaining a perseverant mindset is having self-confidence. Even if you have struggled with self confidence, or currently have self-confidence issues, do not let it define you. You may look in the mirror and feel discouraged with your appearance. Maybe those cool skinny jeans of yours don’t fit just right, or you’ve seen pound after pound add up. Next time you look in the mirror, challenge that negative mindset. Look at yourself and think, “wow, look at me! I am strong. I am motivated. I am beautiful.” Make it your mantra!

Think of all you have accomplished. Whether that be academically, professionally, athletically… the list continues. Being satisfied with your successes may be all that you need to ignite that spark within you. Maybe it was that moment when you finished your first 5K or participated in a marathon. It could be that journey you took to shed those last five pounds of baby weight after giving birth to your first child. Those are the moments to remember. They are the memories that make us stronger, both mentally and physically.

The mental barriers that you set for yourself in the face of hardships work against your long-term goals. Don’t become fixated on certain situations or be unable to let go of the past. In the end, you will find that it’s not worth it to get caught up in these struggles.

Instead, you must persevere. You must be triumphant. Your ability to overcome the hindrances you have confronted throughout your life will shape you into the person you will become tomorrow. Everyone has a story. We may have our moments of what seems like perfection, yet every now and then we have to face the reality that striving for perfection may only serve as a hurdle in achieving our long-term goals.

You may wake up tomorrow feeling down about something in your life. However, remember who you are and what you are capable of. Overcome those obstacles, whether they be mental or physical, and strive to make it the best day possible!

Have the mindset of perseverance and you can achieve anything that you set your mind to.
